1. Opening Symposium – Washington, D.C.

The Institute is designed as a five-part, six-month intensive learning experience for Fellows. It begins with a three-day symposium in Washington, D.C., January 23-25, 2019.

During this symposium, leading speakers will discuss successful leadership strategies and effective institutional governance models.  You will experience interactive leadership learning modules and an intensive community-building activity to develop connectivity with the other participants.

2. Interactive Growth Sessions – Online

A series of four interactive growth sessions will occur during the six months of the Institute.

Through these webinars, you will learn new leadership skills and apply those skills by collectively working through case studies that challenge institutional leaders. Webinar topics include:

  • Theories and Models of Action
  • Data Analytics
  • The Business of Higher Education
  • Creating an Effective Executive Team

3. AGB National Conference on Trusteeship – Orlando, FL

You will attend the AGB National Conference on Trusteeship in Orlando, Florida, April 14-16, 2019, and participate in sessions with standing members of institutional governing boards from around the country. In addition, you will join in-depth conversations about today’s most pressing issues in higher education.

4. Campus Shadow Visit with a Sitting President

You will have an opportunity to visit a campus and spend quality time with a sitting president.  You also will meet and spend time with senior campus leaders, members of the institution’s governing board, and other key community supporters.

5. Closing
 Symposium – New York City, NY

The Institute will conclude with a three-day capstone symposium in New York City, June 17-19, 2019, during which you will take part in additional intensive case studies. You also will engage in cutting edge conversations about effective institutional governance and how to build effective and lasting relationships between presidents, board chairs and trustees.

Throughout the Institute, you will work in small groups, led by AGB Search executive consultants.  They will prepare you for the executive search process.  You will be prepared to participate in mock interviews with current Board trustees.
