The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)

Louie serves as a member of the student affairs leadership team at The University of Texas at El Paso, the nation’s leading Hispanic-Serving university.  Louie’s work focuses on assessment and strategic planning, cross-campus student success initiatives, and student and staff professional development.  His portfolio includes oversight of the Career Center, Union Services, marketing, and divisional operations as well as co-leading the university’s Hispanic Servingness Working Group and asset-based student success strategic plan, the UTEP Edge.  He will also play a role in establishing the newly announced Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success at UTEP.

Prior to UTEP, Louie served as head of diversity and inclusion for global law firm Proskauer Rose LLP, in New York City, where he oversaw the firm’s diversity committee, affinity groups, and established the overall strategy for diversity, equity, and inclusion. He also worked at non-profit organization SEO (Seizing Every Opportunity) where he oversaw the corporate law internship program and trained, mentored, and placed students from underrepresented backgrounds in competitive internships at some of the world’s most prestigious law firms.

He began his career as an attorney in the New York office of global law firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, where his practice focused on employment law and intellectual property. He also helped establish the firm’s first diversity committee. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from Baylor University, a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School, and is a Cornell Certified Diversity Practitioner.
