Keith Whitfield, Ph.D.

Dr. Keith Whitfield, Ph.D., was a member of the AGB Institute for Leadership & Governance Class of 2020. Dr. Whitfield was appointed President of University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2020. He previously served as the Provost and Sr. Vice President of Academic Affairs and a Professor of Psychology at Wayne State University. He received a Bachelors in Psychology from the College of Santa Fe and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in life span Developmental Psychology from Texas Tech University and did post-doctoral work in quantitative genetics at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
As Provost, he was responsible for faculty hiring, promotion and tenure, and budget and policies for the more than 2600 faculty and staff. He was also responsible for student affairs including student success, curriculum, the dean of students, housing and other student related auxiliaries.
Dr. Whitfield has been a continuously funded researcher through NIA, NIH, and NSF with projects totaling more than $15 million. He has authored or co-authored over 200 journal articles, books and book chapters. His current research focuses on the relationship between stress and longevity in African American families.
