Thomas Gibson, Ph.D.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Dr. Thomas Gibson was appointed Chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in October 2020. Previously, Dr. Gibson served at Bowling Green State University as vice president for student affairs and vice provost.
He provides senior leadership for multiple Division of Student Affairs functional areas, including the Office of the Dean of Students, Residence Life, Recreation and Wellness, Multicultural Affairs/Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives; TRIO Programs, Counseling Center, Accessibility Services, Falcon Health Center, Student Insurance Office; Business Affairs, New Student Orientation, Campus Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Student Legal Services. As vice provost, his work involves pursuing efforts to improve undergraduate student retention, persistence, completion and overall student success outcomes.
Before joining BGSU in 2016, Gibson served as associate vice president for student affairs at Ball State University.
He has 21 years’ experience in higher education and student affairs leadership, primarily at BGSU, Ball State, York and Queens colleges CUNY, and the University of Connecticut. His experience includes strategic planning, program development, diversity and inclusion efforts, retention and degree-completion initiatives, facilities, and budget and resource management.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Eastern Connecticut State University, a master’s degree in education from the University of New Haven, and a doctorate of educational leadership in higher education administration from Johnson and Wales University.
