Dr. Shannon McLaughlin Rooney serves as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications at Community College of Philadelphia. Her portfolio includes admissions, tuition services, registration and enrollment management; institutional effectiveness, research and assessment; and marketing, communications, events, and community relations. It also includes three regional centers throughout Philadelphia. Prior to that appointment, she served the college as Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
Previously, Dr. Rooney served Temple University as Assistant Dean for Strategic Communications as well as director of marketing and communications at the Klein College of Media and Communication. Her experience at Temple also included communications and institutional advancement work for the College of Liberal Arts. Before establishing herself in higher education, she worked in corporate communications in the legal, healthcare and financial services industries. She has also been a freelance journalist covering real estate news for The Philadelphia Inquirer and other city outlets. She serves on the community advisory board of WHYY, Philadelphia’s leading public media organization.
Dr. Rooney earned her B.A. in English from the University of Pittsburgh, and her Master of Journalism and Ph.D. in media and communication at Temple University. Her research has focused on journalism and public memory and has been published in Journalism Studies, Journalism, Digital Journalism, and New Media & Society.
