Athos Brewer, Ph.D.

Dr. Athos Brewer was appointed Vice President for Administrative Services for Union County College in April 2019. He has extensive experience in higher education leadership to include single and multi-campus institutions, large community college systems with enrollments exceeding 114,000 students. His leadership experiences include oversight of college presidents, workforce programs, strategic planning, program management and development, college operations, student affairs and enrollment management, program assessment and evaluation, student success and retention services, budget management, financial aid services, judicial affairs, counseling services, policy and procedures development, and supervision, training and evaluation faculty, staff and college executives.
In his recent role as Vice Chancellor of Student Services, he was responsible for the overall strategy for Student Services, which entails the development of goals and objectives to ensure effective collaboration and coordination among all Colleges and the HCC Centers of Excellence.
Prior to arriving at HCC, Dr. Brewer served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Bronx Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY). His innovative ideas resulted in the restructuring of the Student Affairs that focused on access, support services and student success. He provided leadership in the implementation of the Reverse Transfer initiative, which resulted as a best practice at CUNY Colleges. Under his tenure, enrollment, retention, and graduation rates increased.
Dr. Brewer earned his doctorate in Education Technology from American University, a Master’s of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of Dayton, and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in International Studies from Capital University.
He is the proud father of two children and is married to Dr. Helen Castellanos Brewer, who also has a career in Higher Education Administration.
