Dr. Avinandan “Avi” Mukherjee is the Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Marshall University, responsible for ten colleges and schools, libraries, enrollment management, student success, student affairs, research, institutional research, online learning, career education, teaching and learning, etc. Previously, he served as Dean of the Lewis College of Business, responsible for business curriculum, faculty, students, budgets, fundraising and external engagement. In both roles, Avi led a comprehensive reimagination in collaboration with external and internal stakeholders. Before joining Marshall, Avi served as Dean of the College of Business at Clayton State University in Atlanta, and Chair of the Marketing Department in the School of Business at Montclair State University, New Jersey.

Avi earned his doctorate in Marketing from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and is a graduate of the Management and Leadership in Education from Harvard University. Avi has a uniquely international background, having taught as full-time or visiting faculty in nine countries. Avi was honored in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Who’s Who in Education, and served as the President of the Society for Advancement of Management, as Board member of West Virginia Public Education Collaborative and Clayton Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta, and as Chair of the University System of Georgia Regents Academic Advisory Committee on Business. Avi is a member of Rotary Club of Huntington and other community organizations, and has been invited to speak in numerous forums and events.

Avi is a tenured Professor of Marketing and a distinguished researcher having published and presented over 100 scholarly articles garnering more than 6,000 citations. He co-authored a scholarly book by Wiley titled “An Integrated Approach to Environmental Management” and is the Editor-in-Chief of a peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
